Found these images on my favorite blog, Desire To Inspire.  Still thinking about changes I will make to my kitchen……

Kitchen black

This is probably too dark for me, but I really love the way this looks.

Kitchen white

I love these shiny white tiles!!!

Check out my feature on View Sofia.   I wish I could read it.

Those images are nice…I especially like the top one, but you’re right, it is a bit dark.
I love the idea behind a chalkboard in the kitchen, but not sure how it would pan out in reality. I love the convenience of being able to jot down a recipe to have in front of you while cooking (rather than having to look down at a book or notecard), or to keep a shopping list on, for instance, but I am scarred by the thought of chalk remnants all over the place, and especially in the food. Chalk dust flies everywhere when you write with it! But the idea seems soooo cool, haha I am torn! Of course, by the time I scrounge up enough to own rather than rent, I’m sure the trend will either be long gone, or there will be some super new improvement on the whole thing.
Best of luck on your kitchen project!

Stylefyles–I did a big chalk board wall for the girls when they were very young, it was pretty low maintenance. But you’re so right about chalk dust in the food–that is another thing entirely!

Hi Judy: I just wanted to offer up my experience for your benefit (I hope). First, I have tiled both my kitchen and my bathroom with white subway tiles. You really don’t need to do anything expensive with these, you can get them at Loews (or is it Lowes?). However, there are two white – one is super bright and will drive you mad. I also recently painted some of my cabinets a lovely blue that reminds me of an antique wedgewood – dark painted cabinets are happening, as you know, at the moment. But I found instead of making them recede (you read that all the time, dark colors recede), they made the room feel smaller. It’s been about a month now, and I’m getting used to it, but unlike your kitchen, I have only one wall with upper cabinets, the other wall has shelves that are under a sofett which give it a recessed feeling and open up the room a good deal. I also have and old-school-style, rather large chalkboard in my kitchen, but it’s green, not black (so much easier on the eyes in a small space). It’s great for shopping lists, inspiration, ideas and schedules. I even keep my scale in the kitchen and write down my weight on that chalkboard!

I’d love to remodel my kitchen. I just can’t make a decision on the direction I want to go. I loathe my granite, as much as one can loathe an inanimate object!

    Hi Judy,
I’m a new reader of your unique blog, and enjoy your distinctive visual “voice” ! The Bulgarian article is very complimentary – and as advised by others, the Google translation bar works well to translate the nice comments on your personal style and decorating projects.

The shiny white tiles are so fresh and clean in the kitchen, and although we have seen it many times- the zingy fruit in the bowl looks great too. I also love the chalk board idea but it is somehow quite oppresive ? Raw wood is always great.
I always love looking through the MERRELL dream homes books for ideas (you probably have these?)xxx
Would love you to visit me.x

We just redid our kitchen with the white subway tiles and I love them- We added dark countertops and kept the white cupboards that we already had up. Walls are pale yellow with yellow provencal print table linens and red and blue checked chair covers. Subway tiles are very versatile and seem to lend themselves to many treatments.
