Grey Gardens

Beautiful rooms via Grey garden

I just saw the trailer for the new version of Grey Gardens with Jessica Lange and Drew Barrymore.  I've really had mixed feelings about turning a documentary into a movie, especially this one, but after viewing the trailer, HBO may have just pulled it off.  Drew does a dead on Edie, and Jessica Lange was the perfect choice for big Edie.  I'll definitely want to see it.  Did anyone see the trailer?–Wonder what you all thought.

Yes, I cannot wait for Grey Garden to be shown in Australia! Don’t you just love little Edie look? She is one strange and interesting character. Great inspiration. ~eLLy*

A longtime fan of Grey Gardens and now The Beales of Grey Gardens, I was a little surprised to hear the rumors of the Barrymore/Lange project’s inception a few years back. Although the Broadway adaptation of the documentary was surprisingly genius, I thought a feature film based on the lives of everyone’s favorite stylish eccentrics might cause annoying media hype, over-simplification or would divorce the Beales’ story from its off-the-cuff charm. Coming across the HBO trailer on Jezebel, I was actually pleased by the looks of it also. Drew being younger than Edie in the documentary-inspired footage actually proves perfect–Little Edie was so youthful and flirtatious that it just works. The style of the new film seems to stay aesthetically loyal to the original while bringing in a grand sort of old-Hollywood glamour to the 1920’s-40’s segments that both the Beales might have enjoyed. I’m really excited to see it and think the smallscreen might be a great way of rounding out the story that has already been told in cinemas and onstage.

I loved the documentary; it was amazing, life changing, and then I saw the musical, which was incredibly well done, and I loved that too. But then when I heard about there being a MOVIE… it didn’t sound too right with me. But I haven’t seen teh trailer yet, maybe it could change my mind too?

I’m looking forward to Grey Gardens. For once, I think the casting might just be genius. Jessica Lange’s touseled and dilapidated glamour is perfect.

Oh, I just love these two spacious, relaxed rooms…and that large parquet floor is to die for! I like the mix of proportions and groupings…whoever designed the space is not afraid of stepping out of what’s expected – how refreshing! I feel quite the same way about your space – it’s both unique and beautiful.
