Ah! The man with the cat on his head. I used to see him around Columbus Circle all the timeโ€” only in New York. Thanks for sharing!

thanks for linking- these photos are great and i had never seen this blog before.
i’m a little mad about the guy with the cat on his head though- i saw him in soho a few weeks ago, went to snap a photo, and a woman ran up and yelled right in my face that i had to pay $5 to take a picture! i was so freaked out i put the camera away.
hmph.. i wonder if the photodiarist had to pay.

oh, i know!! i love both her blogs. she captures the craziness of NYC so vividly…in black and white, no less- not easy.
to joelle van dyne: yes, the photodiarist did have to pay to take his photo. here’s the link to that post: http://photodiarist.typepad.com/thephotodiarist/2009/10/new-york-city-characters-the-cat-man.html

I don’t know why, but I love the photo of the woman in yellow. Two purses, mittens, short sleeved sweater, wig with beads and flowers (or could be an old fashioned swimming cap). It’s a young bag lady, or Carrie Bradshaw on an acid trip. Thanks for sharing! There’s something bright and funny and insane about it…

This is so funny because I live in Manhattan and have seen that man with the cat on his head! In fact, I recognize where is in the picture, and it was mere blocks from where I saw him…could I have been a few steps away from the photodiarist myself? Funny to think!
I love your blog and of course Jane’s! Please read my blog, http://www.styledinthecity.wordpress.com. I have included both of you in a “My Favorite Fashion Blogs” Post!

So glad you’ve showcased her, Judy! I feel like she’s ‘my’ discovery (& virtual friend) but am so happy that everyone else is discovering her, too. She really is running round NY bearing witness to people’s humanity, and is a gifted storyteller as well as photographer. And an important part of the blogging community: her comments on other blogs are spot on.
It’s been a while since I’ve ‘reached out’ to your blog – loved that post – I feel the same way, it’s so cringe making when strangers pretend to be our friends to get business or financial gain. Creepy!
Our thoughts are with the people of Texas: horrific, tragic events, and it’s dominated British news.

hi Judy! I really enjoyed these photos, thanks. Sometimes I look for inspiration on the Facehunter’s site, and this morning I saw a pic that made me think of you: in his post dated November 5, Jakarta, there are two pics of a bobbed young woman wearing a fitted grey dress with fabulous inter-galactic shoulder pads. She has a marvelous, large silver pendant that reminded me of the peices you collect. (I notice she is also wearing the vampire teeth necklace that Carol has.)
Hope you’re having a pleasant weekend.
